Today’s spiritual one-liner begins with one of Jesus’s most powerful self-declarations: “I am the light of the world” (John 8:12). More than just a metaphor—it was a declaration of His divine nature. Just as light enables sight, gives warmth, and sustains life, Jesus is the source of spiritual vision, divine comfort, and eternal existence.
The verse continues with a promise: “he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.” Jesus links light with following Him. This isn’t just about illumination—it’s about guidance. Like a lighthouse guiding ships to safe harbor, He provides clear direction through life’s darkest moments.
Think about what this means practically. When we face difficult decisions, the Light of Christ can illuminate the right choice. When we struggle with doubt, His truth can pierce the darkness. When we feel lost, His gospel provides clear markers for our journey.
He later taught the Nephites: “I am the light which ye shall hold up” (3 Nephi 18:24). As we follow Him, we become reflectors of His light, helping illuminate the path for others.
I testify that Jesus Christ isn’t just a source of light—He is light itself. When we choose to follow Him, we never have to walk in darkness. His perfect guidance lights our way through any challenge we face.
